In 2033, the Social Security program will have difficulty paying benefits in full to all of its beneficiaries, but that’s a long-term problem that requires thoughtful, deliberate solutions.

It can’t be made in the time we have to prevent cuts to Social Security disability, which are slated to begin in 2016. The common sense solution is to shift money to Social Security disability, preventing it from running out of money in a year and a half and forcing 8 million to 10 million severely disabled adults into poverty.

Once everyone is protected, then we can work together on long-term solutions for the Social Security program.
