The number of uninsured persons in the United States is alarmingly high, but the U.S. is making significant changes to remove barriers to health care access, especially for those with pre-existing conditions and older adults not yet eligible for Medicare. If general health care costs continue to rise at their current rate, it is entirely possible that Medicare and Medicaid could face severe budget cuts. Funding these major programs at an appropriate level is critical because millions of older adults in the United States rely heavily on both programs for their health care.
