B'nai B'rith International has issued the following statement: B'nai B'rith International rejects calls by some Jewish leaders for Jewish groups to boycott the Summer Olympics in Beijing.
B'nai B'rith believes advocacy on issues such as human rights in China is the best course of action. We believe an organized boycott would not advance progress on these issues. Moreover, any comparison to the Berlin Olympics of 1936 is a flawed analogy.
While we are deeply concerned about human rights issues in China, including its relationship with a Sudanese government that allows the Darfur tragedy to happen, as well as the situation in Tibet, we do not believe a boycott of the Olympics would be productive.
