BBI Congratulates President-Elect Obama

B'nai B'rith International President Moishe Smith and Executive Vice President Daniel S. Mariaschin have issued the following statement on behalf of the organization:

B'nai B'rith International (BBI) congratulates Sen. Barack Obama on his victory in the presidential election.

As a nonprofit, BBI did not endorse any candidate for president. But we closely followed the 2008 contest for issues important to Jews domestically and globally.

The next president faces a host of difficult issues and decisions. Domestically, the new president must deal with complex matters such as the economy, healthcare, and attending to the needs of our seniors. On the world stage, Obama faces an unsettled Middle East that will surely keep his attention. We are counting on his commitment to keeping Israel safe and to curtailing threats from dangerous regimes such as Iran. We urge the incoming president to demonstrate quickly and unequivocally support for Israel and safety of Jews worldwide.

We look forward to working with the new administration and the new Congress on issues critical to the United States both domestically and abroad.
