McCain, Wexler (on Behalf of Obama), Address B'nai B'rith International (BBI) Board of Governors Meeting Presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), and Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.), a longtime Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) supporter who spoke on behalf of the Democratic candidate, each dialed into separate conference calls with B'nai B'rith International (BBI) leadership at the Board of Governors meeting, in Ottawa, on June 27.
Both campaigns spoke about Darfur, Latin America, Israel, Iran, immigration, and energy independence.
Both men affirmed support for Israel and acknowledged Israel's critical security needs.
McCain spoke of Iran's wishes to destroy Israel but promised he would not allow a second Holocaust to occur.
Wexler also spoke of the danger of Iran and focused on the need to engage the country peacefully, saying that the American people do not want an overuse of American military power. He also spoke of Obama's goal to end anti-Semitism throughout the country, and noted the steps he has already taken to do so within the African American community.
After each gave opening remarks, they responded to questions from the BBI conferees.
The first, about raising oil prices and the continuing import of oil from countries that may not support Israel, received similar responses. Both men touched on the need to explore alternative energy sources, including solar, nuclear, and wind. McCain added that he would not enforce a federal mandate on these issues, allowing states to take the lead.
McCain and Wexler talked about Darfur and the need to achieve greater U.S. involvement in ending the crisis.
