B’nai B’rith International Executive Vice President Daniel S. Mariaschin presented a plaque of appreciation on Dec. 15 in honor of the nearly 100 Bulgarian firefighters who helped fight the December Mt. Carmel forest fire in Israel.
Mariaschin made his presentation to National Fire Commissioner Nikolay Nikolov, in the presence of the deputy interior minister, and three senior firefighters who fought the blaze. Mariaschin thanked Bulgaria for helping combat the worst forest fire in Israel’s history. Mariaschin was also joined by Solomon Bali of Carmel Lodge of B’nai B’rith in Sofia.
The inscription on the plaque reads: “In recognition of your bravery, courage, and friendship in responding to the Mount Carmel, Israel, forest fire.”
Mariaschin is in Bulgaria for a conference on "Democracy and Extremism" hosted by the Sofia University School of Law. He delivered a speech, which may be viewed by clicking here.
