A community with just 20 Jewish families welcomed a new B’nai B’rith lodge on June 2. B’nai B’rith International President Moishe Smith, along with Executive Vice President of Northern Latin America Alberto Jabiles, and Director of Latin American Affairs Eduardo Kohn, installed the new lodge in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, where they were attending the annual Organization of American States General Assembly meetings.
“I was honored to take part in the installation of this new lodge,” Smith said. “The dedication and commitment of these 30 new B’nai B’rith members to the broader Jewish community can serve as an example for Jews around the world. Even a small community can maintain Jewish traditions and customs.”
“We welcome these new members into the B’nai B’rith family,” said B’nai B’rith Executive Vice President Daniel S. Mariaschin. “We look forward to working with the residents of San Pedro Sula and serving as a conduit to the global Jewish community.”
For more than 80 years, B’nai B’rith has had an active presence across Latin America, working for human rights and tolerance, helping those in need, and educating the non-Jewish population about Judaism.
