B’nai B’rith International Expresses Concern about Reported Involvement of Venezuela and Bolivia in Iran’s Nuclear Proliferation Program

The Associated Press, in a story dated May 25, cited an Israeli government report that states that Venezuela and Bolivia are supplying Iran with uranium for its nuclear enrichment program, in blatant violation of international norms.

If the report proves true, B’nai B’rith International strongly condemns the contribution of these two Latin American governments to Iran’s nuclear program, which poses a tremendous danger not only to Israel and the United States but to the entire world.

Bolivia is denying involvement in Iran’s nuclear program.

“The willingness of these nations to transfer uranium to a regime that not only seeks to destroy Israel but also sponsors terrorism around the world is extremely worrisome,” said B’nai B’rith President Moishe Smith.

“Unfortunately, to learn that Venezuela and Bolivia may be trafficking in uranium is no great surprise,” said B’nai B’rith Executive Vice President Daniel S. Mariaschin. “Iran has become a major benefactor of both Venezuela and Bolivia. It is absolutely unacceptable for Latin American nations to transfer uranium to Iran, whose nuclear ambitions constitute a serious international security threat.”

B’nai B’rith calls on the international community to denounce Venezuela’s and Bolivia’s reported support for Iran’s nuclear proliferation program and to take the appropriate measures to prevent the transfer of uranium to continue.
