BBI Condemns New Attacks in Venezuela

B’nai B’rith International has issued the following statement:

B’nai B’rith International strongly condemns attacks on February 8 against the San Jose of Chacao Church and the headquarters of the government opposition party “Accion Democratica” (Democratic Action) in Venezuela.

Two of the church’s doors were destroyed but there were no injuries. The same day, a grenade exploded at the headquarters of “Accion Democratica” in La Florida, collapsing the floor.

These events constitute yet another assault against religious and political freedom in Venezuela and closely follow the January 30 synagogue attack in Caracas, when armed gunmen broke into a synagogue, threw torah scrolls and prayer books on the floor, and wrote anti-Semitic graffiti on the walls.

B’nai B’rith International asks that a thorough investigation be conducted of these incidents.
