B’nai B’rith International commends the U.S. House of Representatives for overwhelmingly condemning the United Nations’ Goldstone Report, which accused Israel of war crimes during the Gaza conflict earlier this year.
In a non-binding resolution passed on Nov. 3, the House further urged President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to oppose the report as well.
The 575-page Report of the United Nations Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict, or Goldstone Report, was commissioned by the U.N. Human Rights Council, which has been largely preoccupied with condemning Israel. The report glossed over Palestinian infractions, including eight years of some 10,000 rocket and mortar attacks against Israel’s civilian population, which ultimately prompted the Jewish state to defend itself militarily. The report further paid little mind to Hamas’ deliberate attempts to endanger its own civilian population by launching attacks from hospitals, mosques, and schools in Gaza.
B’nai B’rith thanks the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), and the original co-sponsors, Reps. Howard Berman (D-Calif.), Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.), and Dan Burton (R-Ind.) for leading this important effort.
