The following Letter to the Editor was published by The Chicago Tribune
This is in response to "Israel's fated bleak future" (Commentary, May 9), by John J. Mearsheimer, who teaches political science at the University of Chicago.
Mearsheimer's four scenarios all contain heavily loaded, biased criticisms of Israel and, by implication, its supporters.
Nowhere in this opinion piece is there any evidence that he thinks the Palestinian side — which, in 1993 at Oslo, promised to dismantle terrorist organizations, arrest and punish terrorists, and end incitement against Israelis (none of which it has done) — needs to make any concessions.
Add to that the fact that half of the Palestinians are under the control of the terrorist organization Hamas (also conveniently not mentioned in this piece) and one can see the speciousness of his case.
Mearsheimer is an expert at the blame game or, more accurately, the blame Israel game, an approach that will not move us one inch closer to the peace Israelis have been seeking for more than six decades.
