The following Letter to the Editor was submitted to the New York Times:Roger Cohen’s trust in Iran is truly confounding. In his shameful “Realpolitik for Iran” (April 13, 2009), Cohen continues his promotional efforts on behalf of Iran, becoming Tehran’s number one booster.
Cohen’s naïve and misguided “Normalization scenario,” which includes what he calls a “Malaysian approach,” puts an incredible amount of faith in Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Holocaust denying president of Iran who has vowed to wipe Israel off the map.
The notion that Iran has more to fear from Israel than Israel does from Iran is utterly ridiculous. Iran sends its terrorist arm, Hezbollah, to attack Israelis, and Jews worldwide, but, according to Cohen’s logic, it is Israel that is the true danger to Middle East stability.
Roger Cohen needs to join the real world. The one where Iran’s blustering threats against Israel and the west are becoming closer to reality.
