A plaque commemorating the relationship between B'nai B'rith International (BBI)
and Hillel was unveiled Sept. 8 at Hillel headquarters, in Washington, D.C. The event celebrated the two organizations' strong historical bond, which has been centered on a commitment to fostering Jewish continuity and creating young Jewish leaders. Soon after Hillel's founding in 1923, B'nai B'rith adopted the Jewish collegiate organization, helping it gain renown and a strong base on college campuses. BBI supported Hillel until it became an independent entity in 1994.
BBI President Moishe Smith and Hillel President Wayne L. Firestone unveiled the plaque, acknowledging B'nai B'rith and Hillel's joint commitment to "Engaging, Educating, and Empowering Generations of Jewish College Students." The presentation was part of Hillel's annual board meeting.
During his speech, Smith touched on BBI's hope that a new partnership could be forged between the two organizations that would lead into the next generation. Smith emphasized B'nai B'rith's commitment to Hillel's successful future.
