BBI Partner Featured on MTV
St. Bernard Project's "Rebuild the Dream," a 24 hour build, which begins on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and concludes on the night of the Presidential Inauguration. MTV, as part of their presidential inauguration coverage, will host live coverage of the last two hours of the 24 Hour Rebuild the Dream on January 20th from 8pm-10pm.
Volunteers will work around the clock to rebuild two homes in St. Bernard Parish, a community adjacent to New Orleans that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The 24 Hour Rebuild will promote service, unity and national pride.
Soon after Hurricane Katrina, B'nai B'rith International began working with St. Bernard Project to help them rebuild the lives of members of this community. Through the B'nai B'rith Disaster Relief Fund, we have been able to donate $30,000 to cover the costs to build 3 houses for displaced families.
The co-founders of the program, Zack Rosenberg and Liz McCartney, were both featured in an article in the Fall 2007 issue of the B'nai B'rith Magazine which announced our partnership. Since then, Rosenberg has been a speaker at the B'nai B'rith International Young Leadership Conference in October 2007, and McCartney has been honored as one of CNN's 2008 Heroes.
Since 2005, the B'nai B'rith disaster relief program has donated more than $1.1 million raised by our Gulf Coast Relief Fund to help communities affected by Hurricanes' Katrina and Rita. Our initial emergency response provided food and medicines. More than three years later, we are still bringing assistance to the area by supporting housing, health projects, reconstructing houses of worship, and helping to rebuild lives. For more information about our work, please contact us at cca@bnaibrith.org.
AND ... don't forget to tune into MTV on January 20th from 8pm-10pm!
