B’nai B’rith International (BBI) President Moishe Smith attended the inauguration of Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo as a guest of the government in Asuncion, Paraguay, on Aug. 15. While in the region, Smith also met with several important members of the
Argentinean, Uruguayan, and Paraguayan governments to discuss issues involving the countries’ infrastructures and international diplomacy. Smith, along with representatives from BBI and local B’nai B’rith officers, held meetings with Paraguayan Minister of Public Planning, Dr. Lilian Soto; Vice Minister of Health, Dr. Edgar Gimènez; Vice Minister of Internal Affairs and National Security, Dr. Carmelo Caballero; Congressman Dr. Desirè Masi; and Minister of Childhood and Adolescents, Dr. Liz Torres. Discussions included a BBI proposal for the improvement of Paraguayan medical services over the next five years by creating a better organizational system and a commitment from the Paraguayan officers to pass an anti-discriminatory law in congress.
