B’nai B’rith International has issued the following Statement:

B’nai B’rith International denounces the disturbing anti-Semitic fliers distributed in Donetsk, Ukraine, telling Jews they must “register” with their local government office and provide a list of their property to authorities.

At this time, it is unclear who is behind the fliers, but such an odious message has no place in the midst of the deep troubles wracking the region.

NCSJ, which advocates on behalf of Jews in Russia, Ukraine, the Baltic States and Eurasia, noted the leaflets are “a clear provocation, and a gross act of anti-Semitism. The fliers are reminiscent of notices distributed by the Nazis during the Holocaust during their invasion of local communities in Europe.”

It is vital those responsible are uncovered so the unrest in the region doesn’t turn into a cloak for anti-Semitic acts by those who would seek to inflame an already charged situation.
