Richard Spencer Due on Campus Dec. 6

B’nai B’rith International urges students and the local community not to attend a speech scheduled for Dec. 6 at Texas A&M University by hate monger Richard Spencer.

Spencer, the alt-right founder, has a  long history of racism, bigotry and anti-Semitism, and last month at a conference in Washington, D.C., delivered a speech in which he implied that Jews have infiltrated the media, and used the phrase “Hail victory,”—an effort to mimic Adolf Hitler—throughout his speech.

A former student has organized the Texas A&M event. We are encouraged that more than 10,000 people have signed a petition to cancel the speaking engagement.

Though Texas A&M is not hosting Spencer, B’nai B’rith President Gary P. Saltzman and CEO Daniel S. Mariaschin wrote to the school’s president expressing great concern over Spencer’s appearance: “A man often described as the leader of the self-described ‘alt-right’ movement, Spencer preaches a crude form of ethnic nationalism and is most known for his appropriation of Nazi tropes.”

The letter also calls on the school to “unequivocally condemn the bigoted ethnic nationalism propounded by Richard Spencer.”
