B’nai B’rith International has selected David A. Brandon, Chairman and CEO of Toys“R”Us, Inc., to receive its Distinguished Achievement Award, which recognizes the accomplishments of key community and corporate leaders from around the world.

Brandon will receive the award during a dinner reception on Nov. 7 at the St. Regis Hotel in New York.

Brandon joined Toys“R”Us, Inc., the world’s leading dedicated toy and baby products retailer, in July 2015 as its Chairman and CEO, overseeing 62,000 employees and 1,800 stores in 38 countries. He also serves as Chairman of the Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund, a public charity affiliated with Toys“R”Us. Together, Toys“R”Us and the Fund support numerous children’s charities and causes that focus on keeping kids safe and helping them in times of need.

“His innovative leadership abilities during a long and varied business career, coupled with his philanthropic efforts to help children around the world, make Dave a most commendable choice for this award. We are happy to honor him and Toys“R”Us, Inc.,” B’nai B’rith International President Gary P. Saltzman said.

Brandon served as Chairman and CEO of Domino’s Pizza from 1999 to 2010. During his 11-year tenure at Domino’s, Brandon led the company through the largest IPO in Restaurant Industry history and an increase of shareholder value of nearly $2.5 billion. Following his decision to step down as CEO, Brandon has continued his service to the company as Domino’s Chairman of the Board.

Prior to working at Domino’s, Brandon worked for Valassis Communications from 1979 to 1999, and for 11 of those years, Brandon served as the President and CEO. He grew the media and marketing services company from a small privately-owned business to a NYSE listed Company.

Brandon graduated from the University of Michigan in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and also earned a teaching certificate from the School of Education. He attended the school on a football scholarship. Not long after he graduated, Brandon began working for Procter and Gamble’s Case Food Products Division. Ultimately, Brandon became a unit manager and trained as a college recruiting specialist; he worked for the company from 1974 to 1979.

The David A. Brandon Foundation was created more than 30 years ago and is dedicated to its unique mission statement to “do good stuff.” In 2006, Brandon and his wife, Jan, gave $2 million to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan. The donation went toward the construction of a new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at the hospital. In 1980, Brandon’s twin sons, Nick and Chris Brandon, were rushed to the NICU when they were born prematurely and with a rare blood disorder. The doctors and nurses at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan saved their lives, and 26 years later the new NICU was named in honor of Brandon’s sons.

“Dave represents the ideal leader: he is passionate about what he does. His commitment to improving the companies he oversees and his will to help others is inspiring. B’nai B’rith is thrilled to honor him with this award,” B’nai B’rith International Executive Vice President Daniel S. Mariaschin said. He further noted: “We are delighted that this dinner will be one of the most successful in our history.”
