Cultural Diplomacy The B'nai B'rith International (BBI) Center for Jewish Culture (The National Jewish Museum™/Philip Lax Archive [B'nai B'rith Archives]) presents cultural programming that illuminates the Jewish experience around the world. The center is founded on the concept of "cultural diplomacy," which uses culture as a bridge of worldwide understanding.
The center has organized and collaborated on dozens of vibrant and appealing public presentations. Recent programs and initiatives have included:
Distribution of Jewish heritage curriculum packets featuring the text of George Washington's famous 1790 letter to the Touro Synagogue.
Implementation of "The Odyssey of the Jews of Greece: A Journey throughout the Ages" program.
Acquisition, installation, and public celebration of a rare full set of Palestine Mandate coins, 1927-46.
Presentation of a young Bezalel woodcarver in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the national Israeli art movement.
Coordination of a musical program for B'nai B'rith "Diplomacy through Culture: 20 Years of Spain-Israel Diplomatic Relations" program (photo above).
Organization of Family Fun Day, an arts-and-crafts extravaganza affording Jewish families a destination and Jewish-themed activity on Christmas Day.
Development of original exhibition, Cochin Diary: Jewish Life in Southern India.
The BBI Center for Jewish Culture has created the Cultural Diplomacy Fund to broaden Jewish and non-Jewish understanding about Jewish heritage and contributions. Fund donors directly support culture as a vehicle for Jewish continuity and for overpowering ignorance, stereotype, and prejudice.
