B’nai B’rith Omaha Community

Welcome to the Omaha Community of B’nai B’rith International, otherwise known as B’nai B’rith Omaha. At the heart of our community’s Jewish activity is the Henry Monsky Lodge, which took root in Omaha in 1884 when 35 Jewish men launched the first B'nai B'rith Lodge in the river city. The Henry Monsky Lodge sponsors programs and provides scholarships that help instill moral and ethical values and a sense of Jewish identity. The lodge is a proud benefactor of BBYO and Jewish community interests.

We have over 250 active members who support community causes through our various programs and special events. One of our signature programs, the Breadbreakers Speaker Series, has been presenting interesting speakers every Wednesday since it began in 1950. We also host our annual Charity Sports Banquet, which is now in its 54th year.

Please, join us for one of our many fundraisers or have lunch with us at Breadbreakers. We look forward to getting to know you!

B'nai B'rith Spring Banquet to Feature Mike Leach

3.9.12

Mike Leach, the new Washington State University Head Football Coach “Arguably, he is one of the most innovative football minds in the country. And frankly, that’s the major reason we chose him to headline our 58th Omaha Sports Banquet,” said Howard Shandell, event chair.

The banquet has a great speaker in Mike Leach,” Howard continued. “Leach will bring a great deal of excitement to Washington State University, his new home team, and to our dinner program on May 9.

“The new PAC 12 coach will also bring a spectacular offensive game plan to his conference,” Shandell said. “We are thrilled to have him as our speaker and help us honor the most outstanding male and female scholar athletes in the Metro area.” Leach, one of the better-educated coaches in the NCAA holds both a law degree and a Sports Science Master’s degree.

He is a record-setter, too!

At Texas Tech (2000-9), Leach became their winningest coach ever (regular and post-season). In leading Tech’s Red Raiders to 84 wins during his tenure, he became the only coach in school history to take his teams to a bowl game every year.
