The Pinch Hitter Program
Since 1980 the Pinch Hitter Program, organized by Achim/Gate City Lodge of B’nai B’rith, has been a wonderful opportunity for the Jewish community in Atlanta to “go to bat” for non-medical hospital personnel on Christmas Day. This year we volunteered in twelve area hospitals and assisted living centers to give non-medical staff members time off to spend with their families. This program not only boosts morale in the facilities but gives us an avenue to do something worthwhile for our non-Jewish brethren. We had over 250 volunteers in 2012 working at such tasks as cooking and serving food in cafeterias, folding sheets in hospital laundries and reading to residents and calling bingo in assisted living facilities.
