St. Louis, MissouriB’nai B’rith St. Louis Missouri Lodge, consists of all of the lodges that once existed in the St. Louis Area. Last year the lodge also merged with the Al Fleishman Institute of Judaism to form a larger stronger B’nai B’rith Missouri lodge.
In 2012 we had four quarterly dinner meetings with great speakers or entertainers. In July we honored Tommy Goldenberg. Tommy turned 90 years old and is a hugely beloved member of the entire St. Louis Jewish community. More than 350 people came to dinner and a fantastic musical show. Tommy is a musician, more than a dozen artists who performed with him over 60 years paid tribute to him by singing his favorite tunes. The show part of the event was produced by Irene Fox, another fantastic part of the Jewish community here in St. Louis. B’nai B’rith Cares for KidsEach year B’nai B’rith raises money used to purchase the cutest teddy bears you have ever seen! Each bear wears a t-shirt that says B’nai B’rith Buddy on the front and says “David and Betty Blumenthal Community Service Project” on the back. These bears are taken to area shelters and hospitals where our lodge members deliver the smiles! In 2012, Dave Blumenthal passed away. In his hay-day, Dave was the man of B’nai B’rith in St. Louis and he did extraordinary work for B’nai B’rith. Some of the places that receive the bears: Ronald McDonald Houses, St. Louis Crisis nursery, Shiners, St. Vincent’s home and so many more!
Al Fleishman Institute at the JCCIn October we had an amazing speaker from our National office in Washington, Eric Fusfield as our guest speaker for the day. Our participants arrived for Breakfast and then started our first session with Mr. Fusfield, the subject title was Global Anti-Semitism and the demoralization of Israel. During lunch, Karen Aoresty, Executive director of our local Anti-Defamation league, spoke about the same subject, on a local level. Once lunch was finished it was back to our main speaker for one more lecture titled: Jewish Policy Priorities for 2013: The view from Washington. There was a brilliant Q & A, before he had to rush out to get his flight back to Washington where they were expecting a blizzard! Happy to report that he made it back safely!
News for 2013
Wednesday March 6, 2013 we are having a pasta buffet dinner and bingo night! This event is always a lot of fun.
Yom Ha Sh’oah is Monday, April 8, 2013. B’nai B’rith will be conducting the reading of the names, Unto Every Person. Last year, for the very first time, we held the reading of the names in the lobby of our Jewish Federation Building, in front of our Holocaust Museum. It was a very moving scene as many employees came out of their offices and stood on the balconies overlooking the reading, just listening. Many came down and participated. This year we are adding an amazing piece to the reading. A local public middle school that has been studying the Holocaust is going to tour the museum and then read names. These 8th graders, mostly non Jewish will have more than the usual education. There will be a press release in our Jewish Newspaper asking the community to contact Diane Maier, if they would like to read names. After the reading, there will be an article with photos in the paper of the students reading names. We just ordered our teddy bears and usually make our deliveries in May. This year the B’nai B’rith Institute will take place on Sunday October 20th at the JCC in the new Performing Arts Center. The topic and speaker have not been decided yet. Contact Us
