St. Louis, Missouri

B’nai B’rith St. Louis, Missouri Lodge consists of all of the lodges that once existed in the St. Louis Area.

In 2019 we are planning some great events. We will start with dinner and a show! In early May, Irene Fox puts together amazing shows and brings us music from Broadway, the great American Song book and even some Yiddish numbers. We start with an Italian Buffet dinner (dairy) followed by the show. In August we will gather for a summer baseball event. We start with an upscale ballpark dinner, (kosher dogs, of course) followed this year by our speaker, St. Louis Post Dispatch sports writer and author Ben Hochman. Talking about the St. Louis Cardinals brings in a large and diverse crowd.

B’nai B’rith Cares for Kids

Each year B’nai B’rith raises money used to purchase the cutest teddy bears you have ever seen! Each bear wears a t-shirt that says B’nai B’rith Buddy on the front and says “David and Betty Blumenthal Community Service Project” on the back. These bears are taken to organizations where our lodge members deliver the smiles! In 2012, Dave Blumenthal passed away. In his hay-day, Dave was the man of B’nai B’rith in St. Louis and he did extraordinary work for B’nai B’rith. Some of the places that receive the bears:  Ronald McDonald Houses, St. Louis Crisis nursery, Shiners Hospital, Burns recovered, Marygrove, Give kids a smile and so many more!  In 2018 we gave out over 500 bears.

Al Fleishman Institute at the JCC

Last November we teamed up with the St. Louis Jewish Book Festival and attended a talk by author Dennis Turner who wrote “What did you do in the War, Sister”. An amazing book about a group of nuns that hid and protected Jewish children during the war. After the talk our board had a private lunch with Mr. Turner and continued the amazing conversation.

Yom Ha Shoah is Thursday May 2, 2019. B’nai B’rith will be conducting the reading of the names, Unto Every Person there is a name. We have continued a tradition beginning in 2013 with middle schools that have been studying the Holocaust and come to tour the museum on that day and then read names. These 8th graders, mostly non Jewish have more than the usual education. There will be a press release in our Jewish Newspaper asking the community to contact Diane Maier, if they would like to read names. We have many public readers.
