Economic Bailout Plan Allows for
Tax Free IRA Distributions to Charities
As you have probably heard, The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, a historic $700 billion bailout plan, was recently approved. This plan includes important provisions relating to charitable giving, similar to the Pension Protection Act of 2006.
If you are 70 1/2 or older, you can instruct your IRA trustee to distribute funds directly to B'nai B'rith International for tax years 2008 and 2009. You will not have to report the withdrawal as income for tax purposes. This distribution will also count toward your mandatory withdrawal amount.
This is a wonderful opportunity for you to make a current donation, large or small, to B'nai B'rith.
Your donation will support B'nai B'rith as the Global Voice of the Jewish Community, providing services to youth and elderly, in your community and around the world.
Please contact us for more information on how to make this very special contribution at (800) 656-5561 or foundation@bnaibrith.org
Another Opportunity for Tax Savings - Charitable Gift Annuities
Although the above IRA legislation does NOT allow for the funding of Charitable Gift Annuities, you can still take advantage of B'nai B'rith's gift annuity rates by using other assets to fund such a gift. During this especially difficult economic period, Charitable Gift Annuities are a unique option in that they guarantee high fixed rate income for the rest of your life.
Charitable Gift Annuity payout rates are based upon age as follows:
