B'nai B'rith works in many communities around the United States – and around the world – to bridge the gap between leaders of today and young Jewish leaders of tomorrow.
Integral to the future of B'nai B'rith International (BBI) is the B’nai B’rith Young Professional Network (BBYPN). The goal of the network is to attract younger leaders and create programs that will appeal to young professionals and families. BBI has geared specific programs toward young adults, ages 21 to 40.
Young people in all stages of their lives are welcome to participate. There are endless opportunities for young professionals, students, singles and young families. These include social gatherings, community service projects, and programming based on the BBI portfolio of human rights, public policy, disaster relief, health and family issues, United Nations affairs, and more.
There are many active and growing young leadership groups around the United States.
In New York City, BBYPN is focused on community service and smaller group programs. Additionally, the Global Round Table, a group of more than 300 young professionals, focuses on diplomatic and United Nations affairs.
In South Florida, BBYPN stresses community service and social programming.
In Chicago, BBYPN focuses on networking, social, issue based events and small group discussions.
In Washington, D.C. BBYPN focuses on Embassy events, trivia nights, social and community service programming.
In Los Angeles, BBYPN is hosting Living Room Learning sessions focusing on portions of the Torah and how it affects the lives of young professionals. They are also involved in community service and issue focused programs.
In addition, there are active young leadership groups in Europe, Latin America and Australia.
Another exciting focus of B'nai B'rith's work with young professionals is a new affiliation with the Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) fraternity, the Jewish Fraternity of North America (read more on the AEPi-BBI partnership). April 2010 marked the second year of joint of Yom Hashoah programming by B’nai B’rith International (BBI) and Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) as more than 70 college campus commemorations were held across the United States and Canada. B’nai B’rith’s program included “Unto Every Person There is a Name” name reading ceremony, on behalf of Yad Vashem, which was linked to the AEPi “We Walk to Remember” event on campus. We are extremely pleased that the numbers of campuses that participated in this year’s observance exceed the number that participated in 2009. Additionally, we hold joint BBYPN and AEPi alumni events in communities around the country.
Young Professionals have also done their part to support the B’nai B’rith Disaster Relief Fund in the wake of the Haiti and Chile earthquakes. BBYPN raised money in Chicago and Washington D.C. and several AEPi chapters from across the U.S. raised funds.
B'rith presents the Label A. Katz Young Leadership Award to members under 40 who have demonstrated outstanding service to B'nai B'rith. Recent winners are from Panama, Luxembourg, Belgium, Uruguay, Washington D.C., Florida and New York.
