B’nai B’rith World Center Emile Zola Award
For Outstanding Support for the State of Israel and the Jewish People (English)

The B’nai B’rith World Center in Jerusalem proposes the establishment of a new, unique, annual award: B’nai B’rith World Center Emile Zola Award for Outstanding Support for the State of Israel and the Jewish People. The award will recognize non-Jews who have distinguished themselves in supporting the State of Israel and/or the Jewish People in the realm of ideas.

The award will be presented annually in Jerusalem from 2014 in the presence of major Israeli public figures. The awardee will be chosen by a distinguished panel that will be selected by the Executive Committee of the B’nai B’rith World Center.

The award will include an all-expenses-paid trip to Israel and an exclusive tour for the award winner(s) and the winner’s designated guest.

The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding non-Jews who have fought the tide of unfounded anti-Israel and anti-Jewish bias around the world in the current poisoned and threatening atmosphere of delegitimization of the State of Israel and wide-spread anti-Semitism in politics, diplomacy, academia, the press and religious circles. The award will serve not only to encourage the awardees themselves, but will provide a high-profile opportunity to recognize other supporters who have made a notable contribution to the resilience and endurance of Israel and the Jewish People by arguing their case effectively in the court of world opinion.

The award will be named for the famous French writer Emile Zola, a major non-Jewish figure in the exoneration of the falsely accused and convicted Jewish army officer Alfred Dreyfus, encapsulated in the renowned newspaper headline J’Accuse.

The B’nai B’rith World Center – established in 1980 – is the permanent and official presence of B’nai B’rith International in Jerusalem and serves as its public affairs arm in Jerusalem. It has decades of successful experience conducting educational programs, conferences and awards. Among it flagship projects: Annual Survey of Contemporary Israel Attitudes Towards the Diaspora; The B’nai B’rith World Center Award for Journalism Recognizing Excellence in Diaspora Reportage; The Annual Yom Ha’Shoah Ceremony Recognizing the Heroism of Jewish Rescuers During the Holocaust; The Jerusalem Address; The Fraternity Award; Liaison Committee. The World Center cooperates closely with IsraAID-The Israel Forum for International Humanitarian Aid and was among its founders, World Zionist Organization, Ecumenical Theological Research Fraternity in Israel and Menachem Begin Heritage Center, among others.
