The B’nai B’rith National Healthcare Award was established in 1983 to highlight the outstanding work of individuals and corporations that set the standards for health and education initiatives that better the lives of people throughout their communities and around the world.
B’nai B’rith is honored to present this year’s award to Marna for her enlightened civic and philanthropic leadership and commitment to excellence in the healthcare community and beyond.

ABOUT MARNA P. BORGSTROM
Marna Borgstrom has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Yale New Haven Hospital and Yale New Haven Health since 2005. With revenues of $5.5 billion, Yale New Haven Health is the largest health system in the region and largest employer in Connecticut. Marna began her career at Yale-New Haven Hospital more than 40 years ago and served in a variety of staff and operational roles prior to her current positions.
Marna chairs the boards of the Healthcare Institute and the Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care and is the past chair of Vizient, a Dallas, Texas-based health care company. She serves on several other boards including the American Hospital Association, the Connecticut Hospital Association and New Haven Promise. She is also a director of Cryolife in Atlanta, GA.
Marna has been recognized for her commitment to community service and the health care field with numerous awards. She also holds four honorary doctorate degrees.
Marna received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and was awarded a master’s of public health by the Yale University School of Epidemiology and Public Health. She is a lecturer at the Yale School of Epidemiology and Public Health, from which she received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2018.
Marna has been front and center in the fight against COVID-19 from the onset. In March, she was appointed as co-chair of Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont’s Health System Response Team. The Task Force was charged with advising the governor, the Department of Public Health and the rest of the state’s Emergency Support Functions in the Unified Command structure on the proper allocation and distribution of needed resources, supplies, and personnel, throughout the duration of the public health emergency.
Yale New Haven Health was impacted directly and early during the pandemic. At its peak, it cared for nearly 800 in-patients on one day at hospitals across its System. Over the course of the last six months, the Health System has treated and discharged more than 3,600 patients back to their homes and communities. Under Marna’s leadership, Yale New Haven Health has tested nearly 200,000 people and coordinated access to testing in vulnerable communities throughout the region.
