B’nai B’rith International President Gary P. Saltzman and CEO Daniel S. Mariaschin have issued the following statement:
We strongly condemn the terror attack carried out yesterday in lower Manhattan when a man drove a truck along a busy bike path, killing at least eight people and wounding at least 11.
The 29-year-old suspect, originally from Uzbekistan, also brandished fake guns as he leapt from the truck, and according to witnesses, yelled “G-d is great’’ in Arabic. Officials also say he left behind a note pledging his allegiance to the Islamic State. New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo described him as a lone attacker who became radicalized in the last few years.
That people out enjoying their day walking and biking have to worry about attacks by religious extremists, demands an outcry from people everywhere.
We stand with the victims, their families and the people of New York.
