International Jewish fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) Executive Director Andrew S. Borans, answers “What does it mean to be Jewish?” in our latest #0dot2 video.

Borans was appointed as executive director of AEPi and as executive vice president of the Alpha Epsilon Pi Foundation in 2005. During his 30-plus year history with the fraternity, Borans has held several professional and volunteer positions in the organization. In 1980, Borans began a 10-year stint working for AEPi, overseeing its growth from 57 chapters to 109 chapters. In 1990, Borans went into the private sector and founded a successful New Jersey-based sportswear and apparel company. After selling his business in 1998, Borans returned to AEPi, charged with stewarding the organization’s development into the 21st century.

Borans is actively involved in a number of national and international Jewish causes including the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations (COP), Hillel and Chabad.  He also currently serves as a member of the board of governors of B’nai B’rith International and was a founding member of the steering committee for the Israel on Campus Coalition.

Borans has been the recipient of several awards for his tireless dedication to Israel and commitment to the Jewish people. He is a noted authority on the Jewish student experience on university campuses, and is called upon regularly for his unique perspective.

The mission of Alpha Epsilon Pi is to develop the future leaders of the world’s Jewish communities. This mission is demonstrated every day through acts of brotherhood, Tzedakah (charity), social awareness and support for Jewish communities and Israel.

B’nai B’rith International has launched the Zero.Dot.Two Initiative (#0dot2) ahead of its 175th anniversary to discuss ideas around Jewish identity, to educate social media users about Judaism as a proactive way to combat anti-Semitism and to promote the Jewish connection to the State of Israel through the voices of many online influencers.  With approximately 14.4 million Jewish individuals alive today, we represent approximately 0.2% of global citizens.
