B’nai B’rith International President Gary P. Saltzman and CEO Daniel S. Mariaschin have issued the following statement:
B’nai B’rith is outraged at the reports about Syria’s use, once again, of chemical weapons. On April 5, chemical weapons were used against civilians in the Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun, and according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 72 people were killed, 20 of them being children. An airstrike has also been reported of hitting the Syrian town after the chemical attack.
We hold the Syrian regime accountable for this horrendous attack against its own people.
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley spoke to the United Nations Security Council today: “In the life of the United Nations there are times when we are compelled to do more than just talk; there are times we are compelled to take collective action. This Security Council thinks of itself as a defender of peace, security and human rights, we will not deserve that description if we do not rise to action today.”
We endorse Haley’s admonition to the Security Council. The world’s eyes are on the Council today, expecting it, not only to express moral outrage, but to take action to end the Syrian regime’s use of these horrendous weapons.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families, and we wish for a speedy recovery for those injured.
