B’nai B’rith International—the world’s oldest and most widely known Jewish organization—has begun its annual marathon of meetings with heads of state and government on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) opening in New York.

In meetings with world leaders from every part of the globe, B’nai B’rith is advocating for unflinching focus on Iran’s illicit nuclear ambitions, widespread support for terrorism, offensive ballistic missile program and relentless aggression against neighbors and the wider world. The organization’s senior U.N. team, led by B’nai B’rith President Robert Spitzer and CEO Evan R. Bernstein, will also discuss combating ongoing threats to Israel by malign actors including Hamas and Hezbollah, the further promotion of peace and cooperation in the Middle East, and systemic discrimination against the Jewish state at the U.N. on the eve of the body’s selection of a new secretary general.

B’nai B’rith will underscore the crisis of metastasizing global antisemitism—particularly as manifested by virulent, violent anti-Zionism—and urge member states to not participate in a Sept. 28 U.N. commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the 2001 World Conference against Racism in Durban, South Africa.

That event earned infamy for shocking scenes of anti-Jewish hostility, and the conference’s Durban Declaration and Programme of Action singled out the Middle East’s only democracy, Israel, for implied characterization as racist. B’nai B’rith brought the largest international Jewish delegation to Durban and has led the community’s response to the conference’s perpetuation ever since.

Distinguished by its accredited presence across the U.N. since the world body’s founding in 1945, and by its dedicated Office of U.N. Affairs, B’nai B’rith has long facilitated top-level Jewish communal advocacy on the sidelines of the UNGA. B’nai B’rith will also be highly active during this month’s new session of the U.N. Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva.

Foremost multilateral bodies like the UNGA and the UNHRC continue to routinely target the world’s only Jewish state more than all other countries combined.
