B’nai B’rith International has opened a Disaster and Emergency Relief Fund to aid victims of Hurricane Helene, which has devastated communities across the Southeastern U.S.
On Sept. 26, a powerful Category 4 hurricane made landfall on the Florida Gulf Coast, causing widespread destruction and catastrophic flooding as it traveled north, resulting in more than 100 fatalities throughout six states.
More than 2 million people are without electricity, and many have suffered the loss of their homes, while also facing limited access to critical resources such as food, water and medical supplies. Emergency services are working tirelessly, but many areas remain inaccessible due to flooded roads and landslides, complicating rescue and recovery operations.
Our longstanding tradition of helping communities in distress began in 1865 in pre-state Israel when B’nai B’rith raised funds to aid victims of a cholera outbreak. Since then, B’nai B’rith has helped countless people across the globe who have faced adversity after natural and man-made disasters. Recent donations to our Disaster and Emergency Relief Fund have been used to help victims of Japan’s Noto earthquake.
