New York’s Jewish history – particularly in Lower Manhattan – is rich and well-documented. But one aspect remains under-appreciated, yet hidden in plain sight: its synagogues, past and present.

Historian and licensed New York City tour guide Bradley Shaw joins CEO Dan Mariaschin to explore the evolution of New York’s Lower East Side through the fate of its synagogues: the ones still there, ones that have been lost, and the ones transformed to fit the needs of a changing and more diverse neighborhood.

Shaw currently gives walking tours for the Museum at Eldridge Street, the Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy and his own company, Blue Shoes Tours. He has also been a lecturer and previously, a manager at the Museum at Eldridge Street for several years.
