Helping Haiti
More than two years after the terrible earthquake that hit Haiti in January 2010, B’nai B’rith continues to assist. Much of the $250,000 B’nai B’rith raised for earthquake relief was used for early response teams supplying shoes, medicine, health supplies and other necessities.
In 2011, we continued our partnership with IsraAID (the Israel Forum for International Humanitarian Aid, of which B’nai B’rith is a founding member) on Haiti Grows, an agriculture program which uses Israeli experience in agriculture to give farmers the knowledge, capital and access they need to invest in their own land and livelihoods. Funds were also allocated to The Dream Team of Haiti, a youth leadership program that promotes education, solidarity and public service in Haiti. Education is not free in Haiti, so scholarships are essential. With the help of the B’nai B’rith allocation, 32 young people between the ages of 17 and 30 have received scholarships and are receiving ongoing training in community service and social entrepreneurship. > Read the B’nai B’rith Magazine article about our work in Haiti.
