By Alan Schneider, B’nai B’rith World Center-Jerusalem Director

B’nai B’rith Frankfurt Lodge, in conjunction with the World Center-Jerusalem, raised and allocated 30,000 EUR to benefit 10 needy families in Bat Yam who were evicted from their homes hit by Iranian missiles in June 2025.

Disadvantaged and struggling Israelis like these families continue to need support. Please consider a gift to the Israel Emergency Fund.

Here is a summary of how the 30,000 EUR was distributed:

  • A couple evacuated to a hotel with their 13-year-old twins, both diagnosed on the autism spectrum. The father suffers from trauma and is unable to work. He has a history of PTSD following a previous terror attack, and the missile strike re-triggered symptoms, causing severe daily functional difficulty.
  • Single mother to a 5-year-old and a 25-year-old who served in the reserves as a combat soldier for two years. Their home was damaged by the blast and they were evacuated to a hotel. The 5-year-old now suffers significant emotional distress, expressed through fear of being at home and hair-pulling.
  • A 61-year-old man with disabilities. His apartment was destroyed in the Iranian missile strike. He has severe anxiety and depression, worsened by the war, and cannot perform basic household tasks. He has no family support.
  • A 53-year-old mother to a 13-year-old. The mother suffered a stroke this year and is in the process of receiving permanent disability approval. Her previous home cost 3,300 NIS a month; her new one costs 4,200 NIS. She now lives in a two-room apartment and sleeps in the living room so her 13-year-old can use the bedroom. The previous apartment was larger and cheaper.
  • Couple ages 63 and 55 with a 25-year-old son. The husband is undergoing disability recognition to confirm his disability. He refuses to cooperate in finding housing, so they remain in the Arena Hotel. The wife works full-time and carries all responsibility alone. The husband does not cooperate with mediation services. The wife struggles to pay hotel fees and does not receive full governmental support.
  • A 46-year-old divorced mother to an 11-year-old with special needs. Currently unemployed and requires rent assistance.
  • A 77-year-old woman living alone. Her son is imprisoned abroad as a political detainee. Her home was destroyed. She recently had back surgery and survives on an old-age pension and partial housing assistance. She pays about 3,600 NIS rent a month and awaits Ministry of Housing support updates.
  • A 54-year-old divorced father of seven adult children, two of whom sometimes stay with him. He is 84% disabled physically and mentally, with 100% work incapacity since 2023. He survives on 4,450 NIS disability allowance and 770 NIS rent assistance, with no additional income.
  • A 26-year-old Bat Yam resident whose home was damaged. He works as a nurse and suffers PTSD and injuries to his ears and back. He has no stable housing and needs rent assistance once an apartment is found.
  • A family suffering severe financial distress: One member of the family cares for his unconscious mother and elderly father, making regular work difficult. Another suffers from clinical depression worsened by the rocket strike and is unable to work. Their National Insurance claim is still being processed, so they currently receive no financial support.
