In 2009, Glenn Kurtz stumbled upon a three-minute video recorded in 1938 by his grandfather that would become the foundation of an acclaimed Holocaust documentary – and forever change his life. Kurtz speaks with B’nai B’rith CEO Dan Mariaschin about his efforts to restore the film and identify the people in it, a four-year journey that Kurtz chronicles in his 2014 book, “Three Minutes in Poland: Discovering a Lost World in a 1938 Family Film.”
“Three Minutes in Poland” is the basis for the new documentary “Three Minutes: A Lengthening,” directed by Bianca Stigter, co-produced by Academy Award-winner Steve McQueen, and narrated by Helena Bonham Carter.
Watch this interview for a look at the painstaking process Kurtz goes through to piece together a world lost to the Shoah, and for a deeper dive into the importance of Stigter’s documentary.
